About Us

The Josei's is an Anime blog created by a group of black women. For so long we are tired of the stereotype that women don't watch anime, and that if they do, they have to prove themselves in some type of way. This blog has been created in order to break this stereotype and to encourage all genders (and ages)  that anime is for everyone to enjoy.

The Team

Meet Ayomide

I'm Ayomide, a 20 year old from Leicester. I started watching anime 6 years ago (from 2014), the first anime I ever watched was fruits basket and since then I've been hooked ever since. My all time favorite anime is Hunter x Hunter (2011), it's the first anime that I sort of formed an emotional attachment with. I created this blog because I wanted to go against the stereotype that only boys can/only watch anime. Girls should be able to watch and voice out their opinions about anime without boys condescendingly quizzing them for it. I also want to encourage new anime watchers (especially females) that anime is for everyone, regardless of your gender.

Meet Zarat

I'm Zarat, I’m 18 and from London. I got into anime pretty recently as I was bored of live action tv. I never knew that anime was a medium with many genres that were catered towards demographics like shojo and shonen. Attack on Titan was my first and my life has changed because of it. I was drawn to the epic fight scenes as well as the beautiful storytelling and development. I’d just like to use my opinions to encourage more people to watch anime and read manga so they can be part of such a cool community!

Meet Ester

Ester is an 18 year old girl from Leeds. She’s very bubbly and full of life. She grew up with anime her first anime that she’s ever watched was Doraemon and she grew up with animes such as Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, Naruto and etc. She will be talking about details about anime that are over looked and talk about anime characters that we love to simp for.

Meet Jess

I'm Jessica and I'm 24 years old. My younger brother is actually the one who got me into anime. He was was collecting Yu-Gi-Oh cards and I got interested in them so I went and watched the anime and fell in love with Yami and from that day my anime obsession started, I was about 10-11. DBZ was my 2nd anime. I just want to show that women enjoy anime just as much as men and we are just as knowledgeable.

Meet Sinead

This is Sinead. She’s sixteen years old and is from London. Sinead has been watching anime for over five years after being introduced by a childhood friend and has been addicted ever since. One of her all time favourite anime is Jojo Bizarre Adventures due to its distinctive and intricate art style in addition to the well thought and detailed power system. Sinead plans to break stereotypical gender barriers within the anime community by having a space to voice opinions on both manga and anime without having to face backlash. She hopes to bring out a black female voice that can be heard within a male dominated space, as well as making a circle of people that can contribute, discuss and recommend freely and without judgment.

Meet Shantae

Hey guys! I’m Shantae, I’m 18 and I live in Luton (but I come from Jamaica ). The reason why I got into anime was from positive influences and encouragement from some new friends I made, and I thank them for it daily. I had watched anime before on tv when I was younger, but it was only last year (2019) that I seriously got into it, and it’s been one the best decisions I’ve made. What I hope to bring to this blog is spreading my love for anime with all you wonderful readers, and also bring encouragement to new anime watchers. It’s sometimes hard being in the anime community as a new weeb when everyone else seems to be a veteran, and obviously being a girl makes that 10x worse So I hope to bring content which you can all relate to and enjoy, as one big happy weeb family.
