Anime Coming Out in 2021

By Sinead.

If you thought 2020 gave us great anime like Jujutsu Kaisen, Tower of God and Dorohedoro, then get your list ready for some of the most anticipated 2021 anime, both new and seasonal. I am especially excited for this year as many anime that were previously delayed due to COVID – 19 are due to be premiered. Despite the setbacks, animation from studios such as Mappa, Wit and Studio Bones have been power houses, creating a new dawn of anime experiences entirely. Although everything hasn’t been fully confirmed and announced, these are just a few of the anime I am extremely eager to watch.

The Promised Neverland

Premiered: 7th January 2021

The first season of The Promised Neverland left watchers on the edge of their seats eager for answers. A perfect mix of horror, adventure and mystery the story follows Ray and Emma as they encounter both the dangers and wonders of the outside world and the orphans soon learn that everything is not what it seems.

The second season of the anime is already 5 episodes in as season 2 debuted on January 7 2021 and it is already living up to its high expectations from audiences who were worried that the second season would not live up to the first. With a 10/10 plot and horrifying action packed scenes, this anime should be at the top of everyone’s 2021 anime list.

Chainsaw Man

Premiere: November 2021 (not 100% confirmed)

The hit manga Chainsaw Man is due to get an anime adaption and is said to be animated by none other than MAPPA. So far, the animation studio has had an incredible year and with the gory violence and dark theme of the manga, MAPPA seems like the perfect choice to bring this manga to life. Considering how visually outstanding other series animated by that studio have been, I am extremely excited to see how they pull everything off.

In 2020, the author Tatsuki Fujimoto said that an important announcement would be made, and later on the 13th of December it was officially confirmed that the legendary series would be making its television debut. With a set of impressive characters, following the story of Denji who is eager for cash to pay off the debt of his father and his devil dog named Pochita. Together they do about anything to earn money including taking down devils and eventually something huge happens creating what we know as chainsaw man, changing the plot of the story completely.

Unfortunately, an official release date has not been made but the series is expected to premiere in November 2021, meaning there is still more than enough time to catch up with the manga for now.

My Hero Academia

Premiere: 27th March 2021

My Hero Academia season 5 has been confirmed to release on 27th March. This is great news for all MHA fans as the manga has not been disappointing in the least and watchers are starting to get restless to see favorites like Deku, Bakugou and Todoroki on screen again.

MHA season 4 gave us great new villains like Overhaul and introduced us to Eri and her extremely powerful quirk. With the help of other hero’s from UA they encounter Overhaul on mission to save Eri and defeat the yakuza. The end of season 4 saw Endeavor and Hawks fighting a Nomu and the League of Villains laying low, for now. Season 5 however, is set to focus more on UA and the students, especially class 1-B. Audiences will get to see the two classes merged together for joint training classes where they will fight against each other in small teams. Midoriya will also explore the meaning behind his dream that appears in the post credit scene of the last episode. We may also see Gigantomachia meet up with Shigarki and the rest of the league in this new season also. I know most fans are just as excited as I am to see all the gang back together as well as all the action-packed battles that are yet to come.

Dr Stone: Stone Wars

Premiered: 14th January

Dr Stone: Stone Wars tells the story of the start of the war between Senkuu and Tsukasa. Senku claims he wants to regain the world through the power of science whilst Tsukasa’s aim is to purify humankind. It is to have 11 episodes and the sixth episode is currently underway. Stone wars, shows Senku reuniting with old friends whilst also gaining new allies to put an end to Tsukasa’s forces and fulfil their goal of restoring humanity. Dr Stone is returning back with a bang as it continues to be both an entertaining and scientific fun.

Fruits Basket – The Final Season

Premiere: April 2021 (not 100% confirmed)

One of the most popular and loved Shojo manga series written by Natsuki Takaya is set to come back with a final season. In the final season we can expect to follow Tohru as she discovers why Akito is the way he is as the family leader and how she will go about freeing the Sohmas from their curse. It will also deal with the highly complicated relationship between Kureno and Akito as well as seeing Maki and Yuki’s relationship develop. We should hopefully also witness Tooru realizing her feelings for Kyo.

The final season of Fruits Basket is said to be released on April 2021. A trailer has not been uploaded yet, however a promotional image was posted on January 29th.
