Watching anime with my sisters and my weeb friends made me realize that there are different types of anime watchers and today I’m here to explore them with you. Let’s begin!
English Sub versus English Dub watchers
Firstly we have the sub watcher, they only watch anime in Japanese with English Subtitles. They watch it in sub to feel the full experience of the anime, as they believe that dubbed anime doesn’t capture the full emotions of the characters. However, some of them believe that they are better than people who watch anime in dub (#shady #sorrynotsorry) - they are extremely hated by dub watchers.
The Dub watcher, on the other hand, only watches anime in dubbed English. They are incredible multi-taskers, they like to listen to what is going on while they’re simultaneously doing something else e.g. checking their phone or writing an assignment. Unfortunately, they are extremely hated by sub watchers and are called lazy for watching anime in English dub.
The Crybaby
This type of watcher gets extremely emotional at nearly every scene. They struggle to handle major character deaths (especially if it was their favorite character). This watcher could cry throughout the whole anime series and cry even more when the show is finished. They usually feel empty and cry nearly every time you mention the specific scene that made them upset.
These type of watchers tend to love slice of life and romance anime.
The Screamer/Hypeman
This type of anime watcher is the complete opposite of the crybaby. They constantly scream throughout the entire episode. They’re extremely obnoxious, gets excited very quickly (especially when it’s a fight scene) or a scene that involves their favorite anime character. Their favorite sentence is ‘but can he beat Goku?’ because they believe that Goku is the strongest anime character, (which isn’t true but that's a topic for another time).
They love shonen and anime with a lot of action.
The Over-analyzer
The over-analyzer loves paying extreme attention to every little detail in each scene. They tend to label a lot of anime series as 'over-hyped'. These are the type of watchers to pause the anime frequently in order to analyse every aspect of the scene. They usually do a lot of research after finishing the anime and also read the manga as they believe it’s necessary.
(And so they can go ahead and spoil the anime for the rest of us).
These type of watchers tend to enjoy psychological/thriller anime.
The Simp
Finally, we have the simp watcher, this individual loves to thirst for their favorite characters (both male and female). I am very guilty of this, especially when I saw Kakashi without a mask for the first time, it was like love at first sight.
They usually enjoy watching romance and sports anime.
