What Is The Big Three?

First off, Happy New Year.

It's been quite a while since we last posted on our blog, and while we've been keeping consistent on our other social media platforms, our blog posts in the majority of 2021 were quite stagnant.

As people say, life does get in the way, but we're back, and we're better.

Now let's get straight into this post, "What is The Big Three?", and more so, can The Big Three change?

There's been a lot of talks, more specifically on Twitter, regarding The Big Three, including what people think the new Big Three is, and that the current Big Three should change.

Before we get into the heat of the discussion, let us discuss what The Big Three actually means.

The Big Three refers to a generation, from the early/mid-2000s, of manga series from Shonen Jump whose sales surpassed other series within the magazine.

It's a term that refers to One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach.

These manga (and anime), impacted society, as many of you would know, and had a considerable influence, especially within the western world.

One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach carried the sales within Shonen Jump, they were popular, ongoing for a long period, simultaneously. The acclaim and cultural influence they held during that time were unmatched. The Big Three caused a movement in shonen, and made it into what it is today.

So back to the question - can The Big Three change?

In essence, no. The Big Three relates to a specific time period, like a snapshot of the three biggest manga series with a high percentage of sales. The Big Three wasn't a matter of an opinion of which manga people thought at the time were the best, it's a fact.

I think a lot of people confuse the Big Three as some opinion that was popular at the time and try suggesting new-generational anime that is popular such as Demon Slayer or Attack on Titan. Still, besides the fact that some of these mangas aren't published from Shonen Jump, The Big Three really can't change, it was a term to describe that 'golden' generation.

There is only one Big Three, and it will always be One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach.

One thing that I've noticed about The Big Three debate, is that most people often want to replace Bleach, with another anime.

We'll get onto how Bleach has a lot of unnecessary hate in future blog posts (I promise), but for this post, I'll keep it concise.

Bleach is a part of The Big Three for a reason, and a lot of people need to put respect on its name.
